I had a really busy day today! It started at 9AM with an excursion with my literature class. We took a walk around Madrid and looked at literary landmarks. A lot of it was based around the play we're reading right now, Luces de Bohemia.
Luckily, the most famous churros place in Madrid is in Luces de Bohemia, so we got to stop there and eat. I forgot to take a picture before we started eating, of course, so here's after we had mostly demolished them.
In Madrid, "gatos" are anyone who was born in Madrid and whose parents and grandparents were born in Madrid too. It has nothing to do with cats; it's because of this guy.
This is the birthplace of "patatas bravas," the sauce they use in them. I made a joke about how exciting this was for me as a big Heinz fan to be at the birthplace of ketchup, and no one got it🎻🎻🎻 Win some lose some.
We had to find the representation of la locura (madness) on this statue and I was the one to do it. She's on left above Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.
After the walk, I met Larissa at this restaurant for lunch. New favorite place alert. It was so cute and the food was so good. And--long story time--I was looking through that rack of clothes while I waited for Larissa to get there and I found this super cute red coat for €5! Massive win for me. I was a little bit cold on the literature walk this morning, even though it was a nice sunny day, and I was afraid if I was a little cold then, I was going to be freezing during the night, and I didn't have time to go home to get my coat. (It turned out that fear was wrong, it was warmer at night than it was in the morning, I didn't even wear my coat.) But anyway, all the Humanas are €5 on everything rn, so I had resolved to run in one and grab a coat and just use it for the night and donate it back again tomorrow, and that was just gonna be how it was, but then I found this coat (also for €5) and it's so nice! Incredible.
Menú del día: first plate: this fruit salad with pineapple, apple, nuts, and some other stuff. It was really good.
Second plate: vegetarian lasagna for me. It was even better.
Dessert: chocolate mango cake. Not normally what I'd go for but I loved this. I will definitely be coming back here.
After lunch Larissa and I went thrifting to kill time before class at the Prado.
Time to BeReal! While I take off my sweatshirt during class at the Prado.
After the Prado I went with Larissa to the post office so she could send some postcards. There was this adorable little post office merch vending machine. Luv.
After the post office Larissa, Jason, and I went to get a snack before our night Christmas lights bus ride. We went to the Casa Dani stall in the Mercado de la Paz. This is supposed to be the best tortilla de patatas. It was featured on Jan's favorite show, Somebody Feed Phil. (Jan, check your Whatsapp.) I' hadn't been yet; Larissa had.
Here is the best tortilla (and sangria). The tortilla was really good. I might agree with the consensus that it's the best in Spain.
Surprise, I was still hungry, so I got this too. I looked it up, but I didn't really know what it was when I ordered it, it was just one of the other two vegetarian things on the menu. Then I got it and saw it and realized I'd had this before and I don't really like it. And yeah, I didn't like it, and this is definitely not the best of this in Spain. I ate it, but not a fan.
After eating we met up with Bernadette and Bella and went to ride a bus around Madrid for an hour and look at all the Christmas lights :)
Bernadette, Larissa, me, Bella.
Time to BeReal! Right after we just took a bunch of other selfies.
After the bus ride we walked around a Christmas market for a few minutes.
Time to BeReal! Carson was late to the bus, so Jason and Carson took the next one ten minutes later, but then we met up at the Christmas market after.
