Larissa got to Madrid today!!! It's been a lot of back and forth, will she won't she, with her coming this semester or not--I think I mentioned on the blog before all the problems she's had with getting her visa--but she is here! And she is staying in Susana's apartment with me! Very exciting. We texted a good amount over the summer when she, Jisenia, and I were doing all the work for the visa, so we got to know each other then, and then over the last few weeks we've talked a lot as she's been planning on coming. So I feel like we're friends already :)
She was supposed to get here at like 10AMish, but her flight was delayed and she didn't get here until like 1PM. I had plans with Lauren and Addie and Jisena at 1PM, so Larissa showed up, Susana was at work, and I was like, "I'm so sorry to spring this on you, I know you've been traveling for forever and you're probably so tired, but we have to go." So she got ready and we went to Addie and Jisenia's apartment, and then we all went to lunch. (Lauren, Addie, me, Jisenia, Larissa.)
We ate at the same place we went to on Friday after the play for sangria. That night Addie was telling me how good the prawn risotto is, and I was like... I'm interested. So when that was brought up as a lunch option today, we all went with it. Here's the good sangria with the good fruit.
Here is the aforementioned prawn risotto. Addie was right, it was amazing. Addie is a self-declared foodie, which is really nice for me, because I know if I follow her around we'll eat good. I've been benefitting from her knowledge without doing the work myself.
Then we went back to Addie and Jisenia's apartment, and Addie, Jisenia, Lauren and I planned our trip to Vienna and Prague next month!!! (Larissa's parents are going to be in Berlin the weekend we're going, so she's either meeting them there or they're coming here.) I'm sooo excited. So excited. It is so crazy that I am in Spain, planning to travel Europe, with my friends. I have had a lot of moments like this, but I haven't wanted to be sappy on the blog, but I can't help it anymore. This is just too awesome, I can't believe it's real, I can't play it cool anymore, I am too excited.
Anyway, going to follow that up with telling everyone about the group boyfriend we got at lunch. The bartender at the restaurant was really cute. We all thought so, so we are sharing him. Communal boyfriend. (Nanna--I can't get a picture of him either.)
After lunch Larissa and I went to a bazaar to just grab some random things. Then we came home, we hung out for a little bit, Susana got back from work and met Larissa, I called my family, and now I'm writing the blog before dinner.
On to audience requests. My mom asked for some pictures of Hola! I am here to deliver. The edition I got was about Queen Elizabeth II. I couldn't narrow it down to just a couple pages, so here's a ton of pictures.
The page about Lady Diana, obviously.
The page about Meghan, obviously.
The page about the Queen's jewelry. It made me think of how Belen taught me and Rose that "bling bling" in Spanish is "blink blink" :)
I liked this page because in one of my classes this week we were talking about some of the beef between the British and Spanish royal families. For example, Charles and Diana went to Gibraltar for their honeymoon, so the Spanish royal family didn't go to their wedding.
I liked this page because it's funny that out of all these people, Angelina Jolie got pole position. Good for her though.
I will also take this time to post my school schedule. Here are my classes:
Monday and Tuesday Madrid: Society and Culture 8:30--10
Masterpieces in El Prado 10--11:30
Spanish Literature 11:30--1
Gener Studies: Feminist and Queer Reflections 4--5:30
(These are all Reunidas classes with other Americans. Spanish teachers, teaching in Spanish, but to all Americans.)
Wednesday
I don't have a set schedule for Wednesdays, but I almost always have some sort of class activity. They're called "prácticas" and we go to El Prado or the Anthropology Museum, things like that.
Thursday and Friday
Cultural Anthropology 8:30--10
(This is a Complutense class with Spaniards.)
