I went to Oviedo this past weekend and stayed with my old host mom! I stayed with her when I did the IUHPFL program over the summer before my senior year of high school! (Shoutout to the real ones on the blog who were there for the precursor to Elizabeth in Madrid, Elizabeth in Oviedo. Hey, that's the name of the post.) Here is us when she picked me up from the train station!
My train got in late, so we just walked around a little bit before we went back home. Here's the Oviedo Cathedral.
Here's El Culo <3
Belen makes such good bizcochos. She made this one for me and her son, Nico, to eat over the weekend and then we could split the leftovers to take back to Barcelona (where Nico works) and Madrid (me obvs). Lucky for me, Nico didn't take his half back so I got all of the bizcocho #winner
Dinnies. Belen is a really good cook.
Saturday morning Belen had to work, so I got to sleep in a little bit. Very needed, I was so tired after the week with my parents, and I had been tired before that too. After sleeping in a little, I walked around the old stomping grounds. Belen's neighborhood has a huge park in it, so I walked around there and read for a little. Then I walked to the giant Carrefour in the neighborhood.
Sigh it's so pretty here.
When Belen got back from work we went to Llanes! It's a super cute little beach town that's less than hour from Oviedo. When I did my IUHPFL program, we were always going places around Asturias, but I'd never been there!
Lunch! Belen said she's always wanted to go to this restaurant, but they've always been full. Now that the tourist season is winding down, we were able to walk in and get a table. My pizza was really good. I ate almost all of it. (I fell off--that's the first thing I can remember not being able to finish since being here. But it was a lot.)
PRESIDENTIAL ALERT!!! CASADIELLAS!!! I got one from this place and another one from a place right across street. (Every place makes them a little different and has their own recipe. When I did my program, I would try like two different places every day.) I was worried I had built them up in my mind, but they're just as good as I remember.
This is the across the street one.
I'm really into whatever this is. I learned the word in Spanish but I don't know it in English. Corrientes anyone? Whatever it is, these little windows/balconies wrapped around a building. I'm a fan.
We left Llanes, ran a couple errands, and went home from dinner.
I got a casadiella earlier in Llanes to go; I had it for dessert.
Sunday morning Belen and I took a walk together.
We walked to the next little town over and stopped at a cafe. They had Hola magazines and Belen and I read the most recent one.
They didn't have casadiellas so I got a carbayón. It's like an Oviedo donut.
Continuing the walk.
Got some figs off a tree.
After the walk we went into town. Here's the Oviedo Basilica.
Belen and her friend went to get a cafe together and I went with them. Here's my smoothie.
After that we walked around Oviedo, then went back home for lunch and then I had to go get on my train :(
I had a great weekend in Oviedo! Thank you to Belen for having me!
