On Thursday (Oct. 13) I went to El Escorial with my parents! It was their last day here. El Escorial is less than an hour away from Madrid and also accessible with the Madrid public transportation. I was done with school by 10AM and we headed right there. The main thing there is a palace/monastery.
Our tour guide in Toledo called a bridge or a specific style of bridge a "portal." I forget exactly what it was, maybe my parents can chime in, but anyway. Portal.
Walking in the palace/monastery. We did an audioguide tour and it was really good. I learned a ton. Also they started the audioguide by saying "The building of this was controversial because it was super expensive and the royals already had a million buildings and their people were starving." Stay woke.
Walked in and you know what it is.
This is a separate courtyard. New courtyard just dropped (in .5 for Ryan).
You weren't allowed to take pictures inside but I risked it, for the blog. Elizabeth in Jail. This library was so cool. I was kinda floored. You can't really tell in the picture but every book in the bookcases had the spine faced inside so the pages were showing and the monks painted the edges of every book gold. Crazy. Every detail in here was crazy.
Courtyard POV from the library.
Sick hallway.
Sneaky picture in the church.
I loved this ceiling by a staircase.
The palace/monastery is where like every Spanish monarch and their kids are buried. Pictures were still not allowed but I had to get one of my girl Elisabeth II (I'm jk she's a Spanish monarch and probably definitely evil but her name is my name :))
Thought she was serving.
Gardens!!!
Outside the palace/monastery.
After the palace/monastery we got lunch. It was so good.
Walking around.
I was obsessed with this wall we walked along. I didn't realize I uploaded so many pictures of it until now but I'm keeping them.
Okay that specific wall time over. New wall time. But it's just one picture.
We went to the Casita del Infante. I didn't take a picture of the front of it for some reason. I think it's because there was no one else there and we just walked in and we didn't know if we were allowed to be there.
Here's the back of it.
Palace/monastery in the distance.
Walking back to the bus.
We went back to Madrid for dinner.
Pineapple fried rice for me.
