On Sunday (Oct. 9) I went to the Renaissance Fair with my parents! It was right outside Madrid in a town called Alcalá de Henares. It's famous for being the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote. Don Quixote is thee Spanish novel.
I had a great time at the Renaissance Fair. Obviously. I would've been happy with almost anything--just showing up in my outfit and seeing like one little Renaissance Fair string of flags would've been enough. But there was a ton of stuff there! I knew it was supposed to be a big one on the scale of Ren Fair festivals, but I didn't know how big is big on the scale of the Ren Fair festivals since I'd never been. Anyway. There were streets and streets full of vendor stalls and food. We walked around for awhile, had lunch, and went to a joust. The joust was sick.
Here's me and my mom on the way to the Ren Fair. It was a little less than an hour away, but since Alcalá de Henares is in the region of Madrid (Madrid is the name for the city and the autonomous community) we could take the metro. Also, check the fit. I made my mom take a ton of pictures of me throughout the day, so get ready for that later.
This paragraph/picture are specifically for people who are familiar with that picture of Anya Taylor-Joy wearing her Emma costume in front of that double-decker bus and shop and other people in contemporary clothes and suitcases in London. If you know you know. (I know most of my audience probably doesn't know, and that's okay, don't worry about it guys just go to the next picture.) If you know, I showed my mom that picture at the beginning of the day and told her I wanted her to take a picture anytime I was emulating that photo. She took this one of me reading on the metro that is kinda what I was after.
In Alcalá de Henares!!!
It was packed. This was just one street in one plaza out of like three plazas that had Ren Fair stuff, and they were all this busy all day.
This guy was carving stuff. Cool.
We were watching them cook all this for a minute and a guy came over and offered us a sample. I told him I was vegetarian and he gave me a confused/disgusted look. My dad took a sample though.
Homemade potato chips!
My mom is super into these.
We spent a couple hours just walking around and looking at everything. We saw this parade thing.
Walking to lunch.
I didn't take any pictures of lunch (because it wasn't that good, it's hard to be a vegetarian at the Ren Fair🎻🎻🎻) except for dessert. I'm becoming something of a carrot cake connoisseur here. This one was good.
In line to see Miguel de Cervantes's family home.
Courtyard.
Photoshoot time.
Photoshoot over. Then we went to the joust! It was so fun. There were four guys in the joust, and each section was assigned a guy to cheer for. We were in the green guy's (el caballero del bosque) section. Don Quixote hosted the joust.
Not el caballero de la blance luna getting el caballero del bosque🎻🎻🎻 He let him live, but then the red guy (who had already killed the brown guy) killed the green guy🎻🎻🎻 But then the white guy avenged the green guy by killing the red guy. The white guy was the only one left by the end.
Holding hands with my mommy again <3
After the joust, I got a cute pair of earrings and then we headed back to Madrid. We went to dinner at this place my dad found. It was really cool.
Dinner. Didn't take a picture of the calamari and the burrata that came after this because I was too busy chowing.
Shots for dessert, on the house.
